this + that: diy floral bunny headbands for easter...

I’ve had a lifelong love affair with headbands. Always have and always will. Last year, Charlotte's 2nd birthday fell on Easter, and I was determined to throw an Easter-themed birthday celebration for her. Since headband options are limited and sometimes expensive, I took to making my own Easter bunny headbands with a floral + feminine twist. The result, I think, was adorable, slightly personalized floral bunny headbands - perfect for every member of the family, female or male. Without further ado, today I’m showing you how to make your own bunny headbands in ten minutes or less in this week’s DIY this + that!

diy: floral bunny headbands

here’s what you’ll need:

  • pipe cleaners (I chose to go with gold, but you could select any color!)
  • needle nose pliers
  • various fake flowers and greenery (I picked up several bunches from Michaels)

here’s how to make them:

1. Begin by forming an oval shape with 2-3 pipe cleaners depending on head-size. I used 2 pipe cleaners for the children's headbands, and 3 pipe cleaners for the adult headbands.

2. Using a new pipe cleaner, bend and cut the pipe cleaner to form the "bunny" ears. Once you've formed the ear shape (basically a rounded C shape, using your pliers (or hands) bend the pipe cleaner tips around the oval face shape one-two times to attach the ears.

3. Cut pieces of pipe cleaner to fasten different greenery to the pipe cleaner base from there. I used two different types of flowers (blue for the boy headbands and pink for the girl head bands), as well as white roses and different greenery pieces to add texture. I added enough flowers and greenery to the base until we couldn’t see the pipe cleaner between the bunny's ears anymore. You can make your DIY headbands as full or as simple as you’d like.

4. Now comes the fun part: adding flower accents. I wanted all the headbands to look just a little different, so some have more roses, while others have more greenery…

5. Voila! Your very own handmade (and almost indestructible) floral bunny headbands! To tighten your headbands simply place them around your head (our child's head) and at the base of the neck, twist the pipe cleaner to reach the desired snugness!

Happy crafting, everyone!

Which of the headbands is your favorite?
